Kate Mackay Roberts is an independent garden designer bringing spatial clarity and wild beauty to private and public landscapes across the UK.
She works with private clients, public bodies, architects and landscape architects — across heritage estates, urban gardens, challenging sites and public spaces. Each project responds creatively and directly to the client, the site and the location; materiality and planting chosen anew every time, with no signature style imposed.
Before founding her practice, Kate spent four years as Senior Designer at Tom Massey Studio, contributing to private gardens and the planting team for four RHS Chelsea gold medal gardens. She holds London College of Garden Design distinctions in both Garden Design and Construction, and has won and been highly commended at Society of Landscape & Garden Student Design Awards in both residential and commercial categories.
Her approach is grounded in strong architectural frameworks and naturalistic planting — intuitively designing after 25 years across retail, events, branding and now garden design. That background brings clear design communication and an instinct for working collaboratively, and this runs through every project.
Sustainability underpins everything: resourceful reuse of materials where possible, sourcing locally, and specifying planting on a right plant, right place basis to create resilient, location-appropriate schemes.
