Sunny Mediterranean Family Garden — Richmond, Surrey
Designed for all year-round views from the kitchen extension, bespoke galvanised steel troughs and terracotta planted pots frame the terrace. Stepping down through planted gravel mulched banks to the lawn — the borders that frame this area are where most gardening effort is needed before wondering through the archway into a wilder, immersive and more naturalistic part of the garden
A sawn boulder stepping-stone path leads into a wilder space for exploration, where fruit trees and berry bushes encourage foraging. Here, the palette deepens: rusted Corten steel, fire, grasses and hot autumnal planting gather around a circular fire-pit, creating a secluded retreat. This deliberate shift from tended to untamed allows parts of the garden to be managed lightly, evolving over time while offering a sense of discovery and escape.
